Policy on Modifying Open Source Software

I'm looking to modify a [BSD licensed][1] JavaScript widget and looking for information about any approvals that are needed. The license itself is permissive and doesn't restrict modification. Our [Open Source Policy][2] doesn't specifically address modification. Does anyone have experience with our policies and procedures regarding modifying open source software? [1]:

I received an [answer to this][1] in the [Open Source Software][2] group on the hub. The gist of it is if you checked the box that you plan to modify the open source software on OSSAT, then you are fine. BSD is very permissive and modification is allowed. [1]:
