“Eikon Toolbar failed to initialize properly” message

In
http://eikondev.thomsonreuters.com/questions, Nandita Deshpande asks: "Hi, I tried two “latest full main ” packages today: 4.0.23 (4.0.23024 – B20140412) 4.0.22 (4.0.22124 – B20140412) and for both I got the “Eikon Toolbar failed to initialize properly” message, which means I couldn’t launch any app. This was on Alpha. To be honest, this message appears quite often for many new packages. Is this user/ settings related or, a bug in the package? If it’s a bug with the package itself – isn’t there a way to test the packages before they are published for download on
http://eikondev.thomsonreuters.com/install-eikon/ page? Is there a workaround to make the installed package work if we get the message, or do we have to keep trying different packages till we chance upon one that works? (which is what I currently do). Thanks in advance for your help. Nandita" Is this to do with the name of the executable, which we have seen in a number of cases in clients or something else with the development versions? Thank you.

  • Hi Nandita. I haven’t personally used any of the packages you mentioned, and can’t verify if there’s an issue with the package. Since these are development releases it’s perfectly reasonable to expect issues. This said, please make sure you’re launching correct executable. Since Eikon 4 was released in production there’s been numerous SRs raised and a Hot Topic created by the Help Desk for the exact same symptoms as you describe. In all cases that I’m aware of clients had incorrect executable in the shortcut to launch Eikon. The correct executable is Eikon.exe. However many clients ended up with Eikonbox.exe in the shortcut, especially when the shortcut was created by pinning program to the taskbar. If to launch Eikon you run Eikonbox.exe instead of Eikon.exe, you’ll end up with the exact error message that you got. See the link below for more details.
